Zoo Lab at Gingham Pre-School

“Zoo Lab came to visit Gingham Pre-School. The children appeared very excited about the prospect of the mini beasts coming and had a themed morning making predictions about what bugs and creatures they might see: “Maybe we will see a big, big snake” and “I think there will be a Spider”. The children were correct and met two Cockroaches, a Tarantula, a Millipede (with “so many legs, it has thousands”), a Tree Frog and a Snake. Children invited their families to come along and share the Zoo Lab experience too. Curiosity was shown about the creatures through observation as well as touching the mini beasts, some children were very brave and even held some of the animals. The children used their language and descriptive skills to discuss with Gary from Zoo Lab how the animals felt to touch, the features they have by counting the legs and thinking about what they might like to eat. After Zoo Lab, the children initiated a mark making activity, showing a particular interest and focus on Tigger the Snake they had met.”
