Children in Blooms have settled well into their new room and have been really busy! Here are some of the things we have been doing…
We have been using our mathematical skills to make our own play dough, using spoons and cups to measure the ingredients, we counted out how many teaspoons it took to fill the cup with flour and then how many tablespoons it took to fill the cup. We talked about the cup being full, half full and empty. The children did well taking turns and worked together.
Once the play dough had been made we divided it into 4 pieces and added natural materials for the children to explore and create, the children got straight to work using their imagination. They created a snail, a tree, a mountain with trees on the top and a snail that was drinking water.
For snack, the children loved making their own fruit kebabs and chose from a range of fruits which they placed onto the sticks.
We talked about healthy eating and about the fruits we liked and disliked.
All the children have been busy making marks and writing using a range of mark making tools, the large white board, chalk board and using paper.
The children have been interested in writing and have been forming letters from their names and asking to write their friends names. They have showed good pencil control and formed some beautiful letters, as well as sounding out the letters they are forming.
The children have showed high levels of involvement while doing larger and more difficult puzzles and have remained focused, they have showed they are proud of their achievement and can work together as a team.
We have enjoyed using the tape measure, we have compared sizes and have looked at the numbers to see which is the biggest.
We have had fun making shapes using the magnetic shapes, and managed to create a large star! The child talked in detail about what they had made and how many points the star has and why they added more to the star to make it a star square.
We have been having sessions in the outdoor nature garden exploring, using the mud kitchen and we went on a bug hunt. We have been listening to sounds in the environment, and discussing what different sounds we can hear. We are going to be making our own paint brushes from natural materials and painting with mud in our next sessions!
