Children have daily access to a suitable outdoor area with a soft safety surface and age appropriate toys furnished with Community Playthings (.co.uk) which hold a 10 year guarantee (with a link) There is a separate sleep room, milk kitchen and nappy room, all accessible without the need for our staff to leave the unit. Each child has their own named cot and bedlinen and are are able to bring their own sleepbags and comforters to aid sleep. We adhere to each child’s individual routine and carry out temperature checks on sleeping children every 10minutes. We work with you through the weaning process and we adopt a progressive feeding formula to encourage the children to sit and eat together whatever stage they are at – from the Bumbo to feed chair and tray to the harness chair at a table – in readiness for dots to tots.
dots2tots: 18 months to 2 years
This is a short term transition room, allowing us to support the children in their quest for independence and developing social interaction, sharing, talking, making choices, learning to become part of a group. Divided into several areas, this room includes a cosy book corner where the children enjoy choosing their own books or begin to sit as part of group to listen to stories read by a member staff and a substantial roleplay area for the children to begin acting out roles they see at home. Children are able to sit at a table to complete inset jigsaws or explore mark making. The room is half carpet/hard floor surface so children can experience a range of creative, sensory and other exploratory activities. The children have access to a covered outdoor classroom, playground and garden area which is used daily whatever the weather!

TopDots children have a substantial play environment planned to support and enhance their learning and development. A large playroom allows the children to explore a variety of activities and an art room is set up for the children to self-resource materials during their creative activities. This room is designed to maximise free flow play allowing each child to progress at their own pace, it gives children practice in choosing and dealing with the consequences of choice, and it encourages a more flexible and open-ended use of the group’s resources. Children are able to access the outdoors throughout the day utilising our outside classroom and play areas.
