Seedlings explore the outdoor!

Blooms have started off the New Year in the Nature Garden.

The children did very well at putting on their own water proof trousers and jackets and their wellies, some children that hadn’t done this before found it a little tricky so the other children helped them showing them what to do and helped them put their jackets on.

We started off by sitting on the logs in our log circle, one of the children stood up and told everyone the rules of the Nature garden.

The children then went off to explore, with some going into the mud kitchen using a range of tools to dig mud, pour water and mix together, one child said “I will put it in the microwave for 5 minutes” while turning the dial.

“I’ve made pizza come have some, careful it’s hot”.

The children involved each other in their play which was lovely to see and hear, lots of laughter was had.

We went on a bug hunt and found a worm. The children were gentle with the worm and said “ We will look after him, his name is now Bob”.

When examining some old plants from the nature garden we carefully looked at all the roots and talking about how roots grow, one child described the roots looking like lots of worms.

The children used their arms to measure sticks using lots of mathematical language “ Big, little, huge, long, longer, short, shorter.

Some children even made shapes out of the sticks on the floor and were very proud of their achievements.

At the end of our session we all came back to our log circle and talked about what we liked doing, we then listened to the sounds in the outdoor environment and talked about what we could hear “ I can hear the trees moving”

” I can hear the wind”  “ I can hear the birds in the bird box”  “I hear and see a plane”.
