Oral Health Week

‘The practitioners and children at Polkadot Alcester have recently been thinking about Oral Health in connection with the NDNA’s #HealthyBodyHappyMe 2019 campaign. The children have been talking about how they look after their teeth at home, how to use their toothbrush and toothpaste as well as taking part in lots of activities to help practise their brushing skills! TopDots were inspired to make some minty fresh smelling toothpaste (playdough) which they used to clean the dolls teeth. The children helped to measure and mix all of the ingredients, investigating the changes in the mixture with their hands as they added the liquid. The children in Preschool have been cleaning up the dinosaur’s teeth with a concoction of toothpaste and foam, exploring the sensory elements of the minty smell and the soft foam. The children independently extended their activity, cleaning their toothbrushes with water before repeating the cleaning process. This led to discussions around their own routines at home and which sorts of foods have a high sugar content, demonstrating the children’s understanding of the importance of oral hygiene and different ways to keep their bodies healthy. The children developed their own ideas and made links between the activities and their own first-hand experiences.’
