“The children and staff at Polkadot Stratford embraced ‘National Mud Day’ in setting. The children were provided with a variety of activities to give them the opportunity to explore and investigate mud in different ways- using senses and tools.
From Baby Dots to Top Dots the children engaged in play in the nature classroom, observing and collecting mini beasts to discuss with peers and practitioners. The children created their own mud playdough and even picked lavender in the garden to extend their learning through senses.
Alongside Mud Day the children have continued to embrace the use of loose parts and caring for their vegetables in the allotment area.”
The children at Polkadot Day Nursery have been continuing to explore and investigate using a variety of real and natural materials. Loose parts play is an ongoing interest for the children, using their newly learnt skills as well as exploring and developing new skills to problem solve as well as risk take. The children in Top Dots had great fun using a small fan to observe how feathers flew and floated back to the ground. In the allotment area, the children have continued to enjoy caring for the vegetables and flowers, using and transporting water.

Using ideas and achieving what they set out to do by adding resources such as boxes and bowls to collect and catch the balls. Children displayed Sustained Shared Thinking skills to work together and accomplish their plans. ‘

“Polkadot Stratford’s parent join in afternoon was full of Halloween fun! The children and their families enjoyed exploring and experiencing a variety of activities including Halloween pasta play, dressing up, pumpkin carving and making ‘Magic Mixtures’ as well as decorating Halloween themed biscuits and clay decorations. The activities planned were chosen by the children, reflecting on their interests in the setting. The children created their very own ‘Magic Mixtures’ independently choosing resources to fulfil their ideas and curiosity to find out ‘what happened next’. The children created some very gloopy mixtures!! At the end of the afternoon everyone participated in Halloween French with Sophie, enjoying songs and stories- the children demonstrated their French knowledge and learning beautifully.”
