‘We have been celebrating World Book Day at Polkadot Heathcote. The children all arrived yesterday as their favourite book character or wore their pyjamas. We had a Gruffalo, Cinderella, Stickman and many more.
Throughout the day we shared some of our favourite stories which the children brought in from home, they were all wonderful! We have been talking about the authors and illustrators and the wonderful stories they have created.’

Here at Polkadot Heathcote, Rhiannon from YogaBugs has started coming in on Monday mornings to do YogaBugs classes with the children.
‘YogaBugs classes bring stories to life through specially developed moves inspired by yoga. Combining fun with exercise, children go on wild adventures where they may roar like a lion, fly like a bird or blast into outer space! Children are encouraged to be vocal during a class and express their emotions physically through creative visualisation techniques we help children believe they are unique and special. These classes are a perfect way for children to have fun, socialise and benefit from the exercise!’

We are really excited for next half term! We will be very busy learning about families, communities and traditions.
Please could we ask for each family to send in a family photo for your child to show to their friends at group time.
We will be continuing with our letters and sounds but we will be introducing two sounds a week from now on. Next weeks sounds will be J and K, please could you encourage your child to bring in a object starting with these sounds for ‘what’s in the box?’ Our numbers of the week will be 9 and 10. The shape will be Octagon.
We will also be teaching simple greetings, numbers and colours in Spanish.
Each Monday we will continue to have yoga bugs come to Pre-School.
Adios for now, please remember to keep checking our blog to see what we are up to.
Our Christmas Parent Join In Day was full of glitter and cheer!
We had lots of activities for the children to explore with their parents, foam with numbered baubles to make number lines, crown making, porridge oats to make reindeer food and biscuit decorating.
Parents enjoyed joining in with our Christmas sing song and also with the actions!
There was some lovely mince pies and treats for the children and parents to enjoy.
We look forward to having more Parent Join In Days in the New Year
We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
The Heathcote Team
‘We had a lovely time outside exploring in the snow.
We used the spoons and bowls from the muddy kitchen, and turned it into a snow kitchen, we enjoyed scooping and filling the bowls to make pies.
We even attempted making snow angels by lying on our backs and moving our arms and legs.
The children noticed the ice in the tuff spots and they worked together as a team to break the ice down, they made some lovely comments – “we can do it”, “wow look”, “I’ve made a square”.
To help extend the children’s play we moved some ice inside, to which the children added the barbies to give them baths and wash their hair.’

‘Over the last few weeks Heathcote Pre-School have been very busy learning their letters and sounds. We have looked at the letters “a,b and c”. We have been learning the actions and songs for Jolly Phonics to help remember the sound of each letter. We have enjoyed going on a shape hunt around the school, we found triangles, circles and squares.
Our favourite activity has been making porridge for the Three Bears and building stick houses and straw houses for the Three Little Pigs. We found out that the brick houses were the strongest, we tried so hard to blow it down!
Week commencing the 20th November our Sound of the Week will be ‘D d’ and the number will be ‘3’. Our shape of the week is circle. We are still focusing on traditional tales and next week we will be reading the tale “The Three Billy Goats Gruff ” and doing lots of fun activities around this tale.
Please check the blog regularly for ‘Dates for the Diary’ in the forth coming weeks.’

Please can we remind parents of 3 and 4 year olds wishing to apply for 30hrs funding that this needs to be done as soon as possible to receive your 30 hours eligibility code for January-March 2018.
The DfE are recommending that you should apply by the end of November to ensure that you get the code in good time for January. You may not get a code straight away as HMRC sometimes needs further information to check eligibility.
Please inform your child’s Nursery of your code as soon as you have it by emailing email@example.com
If you already have an eligibility code this needs to be re-confirmed every 3 months and before the validity end date.
Childcare Choices Local Authority Toolkit
The DfE has produced a new parent communications toolkit to provide further information to parents about 30 hours and Tax-Free Childcare.
